UMC to Issue Report in Wake of ACLU Lawsuit April 3, 2014
Download PDF University Medical Center of El Paso will hold a news conference at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 4, 2014 to share with the community the findings of an independent and comprehensive review of the hospital’s policies, procedures and practices relating to patients that have been brought to the Medical Center by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and other law enforcement agencies. The report was commissioned by UMC’s Board of Managers in early January shortly after a lawsuit was filed against the Hospital District by the American Civil Liberties Union. The lawsuit alleges civil rights violations occurred when a patient in CBP custody was transported to UMC for examination. The Medical Center’s Board pledged to share the report with the community in an effort to remain open and transparent with all of its stakeholders.
