HOSPITAL DISTRICT’S PRESIDENT & CEO HONORED WITH PROJECT AMISTAD HUMANITARIAN AWARD

EL PASO, Texas – Project Amistad will honor Jacob Cintron, President & CEO for the El Paso County Hospital District, with its 2023 Humanitarian Award. Mr. Cintron is being recognized for efforts to make UMC the foremost hospital to organize and supply vaccines for the community during the pandemic, along with greatly expanding access to healthcare throughout the Borderland. The recognition will occur at a special event tonight at the Starlight Event Center at 6 p.m.

Since 1976, Amistad has advocated for vulnerable members of our community, and every year, Amistad highlights individuals or agencies who have given back to their communities.

This year’s Humanitarian Awards honor “superheroes” who exemplified what it meant to be a leader, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. “This award is a reflection of our Associates and their passion to care for members of our community,” said Mr. Cintron. “When the pandemic hit, we wasted no time in figuring out the best possible solution for El Pasoans to receive the care they deserve. I am honored to receive this award, alongside several other members in our community who worked hard for the people of El Paso during such uncertain and turbulent times.”

Amistad’s leadership lauded the accomplishments of Mr. Cintron and UMC at a very difficult time for the entire community. “El Paso was the hotspot for the virus, and it ravaged our community with record-breaking hospitalizations and deaths,” said Andrea Ramirez, CEO of Amistad. “Jacob provided his consummate leadership as he was able to forecast and plan the need for tents, to manage the testing, vaccinations and the need for beds due to the amount of hospitalizations. His partnership with the community, the County, and extraordinary service, then put El Paso on the map as one of the most vaccinated cites in the U.S. He was able to help his team unleash their superpowers -- and now, our community continues to show that we are El Paso Strong.”
