Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialists are Board Certified obstetrician-gynecologists physicians who have received specialized training in the assessment and management of high-risk pregnancies. Complications that could arise during pregnancy are hypertension, diabetes, preeclampsia or preterm labor. The specialized training these physicians have received includes obstetric ultrasound and the ability to diagnose problems and severe medical issues with the fetus while still in the uterus. Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialists will monitor mother and baby closely throughout her pregnancy and during labor and delivery, as well as collaborate special care with a neonatologist should a complication arise.
