UMC provides immediate post-partum contraception to eligible women. Recent changes in medical reimbursement have made hospital-based contraception available to funded women. Special funding will be available unfunded women. There are two options:
Intrauterine devices (IUDs) are inserted within 15 minutes after the placenta delivers after C/S or vaginal birth. Some advantages are that the uterus is open, anesthesia is available and additional appointments are reduced.
Subdermal implants such as Nexplanon will be available to women prior to leaving the hospital. These devices are 99% effective, safe and removal when pregnancy is desired.
