University Medical Center of El Paso Cares for Kids – After Hours Pediatrics

University Medical Center of El Paso Cares for Kids is a unique added service available to our littlest customers in University Medical Center of El Paso’s Emergency Department. Every night between the hours of 6 p.m. until midnight, after the Dr.’s office is closed, but when children can’t always wait until the next day, a faculty pediatrician is on duty specifically to care for children with minor, non-life threatening conditions.

The idea is for children to have a special place to be seen by special doctors just for them. This also means they don’t have to wait until after seriously ill adults are all cared for to be seen. The triage nurse (who asks the first questions about your child’s condition) will determine if University Medical Center of El Paso Cares for Kids is the right place for your child to be cared for, or if his/her condition is more serious and needs to be treated in the general Emergency Department. If your child needs to be admitted for further care, this is accomplished quickly. At University Medical Center of El Paso Cares for Kids, there is no need to wait for a pediatrician to perform a second examination.

After being cared for in University Medical Center of El Paso Cares for Kids, a child’s own doctor resumes management of his/her total healthcare needs. If a child does not have a primary care provider, he/she can be provided access to Texas Tech-El Paso’s Pediatric Group so that a medical home may be established for future comprehensive and preventative care. The same pediatricians who provide care at University Medical Center of El Paso Cares for Kids and at University Medical Center of El Paso staff Texas Tech’s clinics.
