UMC provides immediate post-partum contraception to eligible mothers. Recent changes in medical reimbursement have made hospital-based contraception available to funded women. Special funding will be available to nonfunded women. There are two options:

IUDs

Intrauterine devices (IUDs) are inserted within 15 minutes after a C-section or vaginal birth and after the placenta delivers. This is helpful because the uterus is receptive, anesthesia is available and there is no need to make an appointment.

Subdermal Implants

Subdermal implants such as Nexplanon is available prior to leaving the hospital. These devices are 99 percent effective, safe and removal is possible when a pregnancy is desired.
